Students at Our Lady of Mount Carmel celebrated the Ontario Medical Association’s Doctor’s Day on May 1st. The date of May 1st was chosen as Doctors’ Day to mark the birth date of Canada’s first female physician, Dr. Emily Stowe. In 1867, Dr. Stowe was the first female doctor to open practice in Canada.
Our Grade 1, 2 and 2/3 classes participated by learning more about doctors and their roles in our lives and by creating personalized messages about what their doctor means to them! Their creations were sent to the Ontario Medical Association who, in turn, donated $1 per student submission to the Canadian Red Cross Society.
Thank you to our students and their teacher, Mrs. Magier, for their participation in Doctor’s Day and their support of the Red Cross.
