OLMC brings home double volleyball championship

Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Elementary School has double the reason to celebrate.

The school recently served up two gold medal games thanks to the Jr. and Sr. Boys’ Volleyball teams.

On May 4, the junior team headed out to Cardinal Newman Catholic Secondary School to compete against the best teams in the city for the championship title.

“Last year, the boys took the top spot in Junior Division II, so the expectations were high,” said Coach Philip Daly.

After beating St. Margaret Mary in the semi-final game, the boys were off to the finals against Immaculate Heart of Mary. The boys were down by 5 points in the first set, but after a quick time-out and motivational speech, they returned to win the set.

“The momentum from the battle in the first set carried on for the rest of the game, and the boys emerged victorious!” Congratulations to the Junior Boys’ Volleyball Team on an undefeated season and a second championship!”
“Can we three-peat in 2020?”

On the senior side, the boys found themselves on an uphill fight.

“After going down 2 games to none in the quarter finals, the boys found their spiking ability and battled back to win 3 games straight over a very competitive team from Immaculate Heart of Mary,” said Daly.

This victory advanced the team to the semi-final game against St. Luke, where they won 3-0.

“The championship game had our boys playing Our Lady of Peace. Again, Mount Carmel never doubted their victory, commanding leads in every game. Mount Carmel defeated Our Lady of Peace 3-0 to win the Division II Championship.”

Congratulations to both teams!
