Principal's Message for May

Principal's Message for May

May is the month of Mary. During this month, Catholics all over the world seek to honour Mary by holding May Crowning celebrations, praying the Rosary, and including her in our daily family prayer. This year, as we celebrate the Year of Faith, it seems especially important that we honour Mary and come to know her in a more personal way.

Mary was the woman who said to the angel, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word” (Luke 1:38). Through her selfless attitude, Mary paved the way for our Lord to enter the world and to become our Savior. Mary was the first person in the Bible to acknowledge that Jesus was more than a regular man. Her instructions at the wedding in Cana were, “Do whatever he tells you,” (John 2:5). Not only were those words meant for the servers at the wedding they are meant for us as well. The greatest way we can honour Mary is to do whatever God is asking of us.

Another way we can honor Mary is by praying the Rosary. This beautiful tradition of prayer allows us to re-experience the life Jesus and His mother as we meditate upon the mysteries of the lives of Jesus and His mother. We can also honor Mary by praying other Marian prayers such as the Hail, Holy Queen and the Memorare and by singing Marian hymns such as “Immaculate Mary” and the “Regina Caeli.”

It is no coincidence that we also celebrate Mother’s Day in May. Let us think about how we honour our mothers and, in turn, honour the mother of us all – Mary.

We also begin the month with Catholic Education Week. Our theme for this year is “Growing Together in Faith”. Please feel free to join us as we celebrate together as a Catholic school community during the month of May. Check the calendar for dates and times of liturgies and Masses. We look forward to honour Mary with you this year.
