2021-2022 Volunteer Opportunities

2021-2022 Volunteer Opportunities

We are hoping that things will open up this year and we will, once again, be able to have volunteers working in our school. While we wait for that news, there are some ways that you can participate and help through our CSC committees. Please feel free to reach out to the committee chair to learn more about how you can be a part of many activities this school year.

Fundraising Committee
Our goal as a fundraising committee is to plan and coordinate events that will generate funds that will support our school and their initiatives. Volunteers are required to organize and implement fundraising events. The time commitment can be as much or as little as desired. (i.e. could be for the entire year or just one event). If you are interested in becoming a part of our fundraising committee or helping out at events, please contact Natalie Nunn at Natalie.Nunn@rci.rogers.com. Please watch for email updates about our activities and events.

Greening Committee
We on the Greening Committee have had an opportunity to look around the school property. We have addressed some projects that will assist in brightening up the appearance at the entrance of the school, as well as the general areas around the school. Our plan is to work on changing out the plants around the school and re-establishing the flower beds. The Greening Committee will also work to secure families to assist where possible with the labour undertaken to complete as many projects as possible. If you are interested in becoming a part of our greening committee or helping out, please contact Luba Dobrianskyj at myronluba@sympatico.ca Please watch for email updates about our activities and events.

Hospitality Committee
The definition of Hospitality is “generous and friendly treatment of visitors and guests", and this is the main focus of the CSC Hospitality Committee. The goal of the CSC Hospitality Committee is to make the children, parents and the OLMC community always feel welcome and a part of our amazing OLMC School. The committee endeavours to be very helpful and supportive in any way possible, including keeping the lines of communication open, clear and helpful. Having a group of positive, friendly individuals on this committee is what will make it a great new addition to the Catholic School Council. If you are interested in becoming a part of our hospitality committee or helping out at events, please contact Karen McGarrity at karen@k2perform.com Please watch for email updates about our activities and events.

Hot Lunch Committee
We are excited to have started up our hot lunch program again this year. For now, students are running the program but some assistance is still needed picking up from some of the vendors and eventually we hope to be able to have volunteers back in the school to help. The Hot Lunch Committee is always open for new members and/or volunteers to help out with the Lunch Program. The Lunch Program is our school's major fundraiser, bringing in approximately $10,000 per year. If you are interested in becoming a part of our lunch/milk committee, please contact Heather Quesnel at hquesnel@gmail.com.

Spirituality Committee
The Spirituality Committee strives to invite and create opportunities for the OLMC community to put our Catholic faith into action. Underpinning our motivations is the Scripture passage found in Matthew 25 where Jesus implores us to clothe the naked, feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, care for the sick, visit prisoners, and welcome strangers, saying: "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." Historically, this committee has spearheaded the annual coat drive, supported the advent craft night, directed the Christmas pageant (advocating for the overall vision as well as the collection of canned goods on pageant night), assisted with the Shrove Tuesday pancake breakfast and First Communion breakfast, participated in the Grade 8 day of service at the Good Shepherd, organized various Catholic Education Week events, and procured the resource materials for the Parent Resource Library. We look forward to another year of living our faith outwardly as we recall the words of the prophet Micah: "And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly you’re your God”. If you are interested in becoming a part of our Spirituality committee, please contact Luba Dobrianskyj at myronluba@sympatico.ca. Please watch for email updates about our activities and events.

CSC 2020-2021 Year-End Report

CSC 2020-2021 Year-End Report

Hello OLMC Families,

Our 2020/2021 fundraising has come to a close.

This year fundraising was definitely more challenging yet it was more important than ever as our students moved to online learning requiring additional tools and supports to ensure their success. It was also a time of great need in our local community as families struggled to put food on their tables and keep their small businesses afloat.

Thanks to your generosity we were able to raise $7,100 for contribution back to students, the school and our community while at the same time promoting and supporting local small businesses. On behalf of the school community 10% of these proceeds will be donated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish ($200) and the Flamborough Food Bank ($500). The remaining monies will be put toward some much-needed physical education and sports equipment ($1000) with the remainder ($5400) going towards virtual learning resources and the purchase of new math curriculum tools.

All this is was made possible through your generous donations and support of our fundraising events (MacMillans/Stemmlers; Online Auction; and Colibri Food Savers) and our students, staff and local community THANK YOU!

As we close out our fundraising year, the OLMC Fundraising Committee also wishes to extend their thanks for your great support and engagement in our events. This year offered us a great opportunity to try out some new events which we hope you all enjoyed! We could not have done it without you and the many parents who helped behind the scenes!

Have a wonderful summer!

Lunch/Milk Committee
While this program is on hold currently, here is information for you for when we can start up this fantastic program again in the future. The Hot Lunch/Milk Committee is always open for new members and/or volunteers to help out with the Lunch Program. The Lunch Program is our school's major fundraiser, bringing in approximately $10,000 per year. There is also a group of about 12-15 volunteers who we schedule to come in the school on Mondays and Fridays to sort the milk and deliver the lunches to the classes. The Lunch Program is not a big time commitment if you are interested in delivering lunches to the classes; it takes about an hour Monday and/or Friday starting at 12:20. You can come in as much or a little as you like. This program would not be a success without the help of our generous volunteers! If you are interested in becoming a part of our lunch/milk committee, please contact Heather Quesnel at hquesnel@gmail.com.

2019 - 2020 Catholic School Council Year End Report

Dear Families:

We hope this update report finds all of you healthy and well. While the latter half of this school year has been anything but traditional, the overwhelming desire for our school community to enhance the experience of our students, better our school, and support our community at large has not changed!

The Catholic School Council (Parent Council) is proud to share how, together, we are making a difference. Over the course of the year, together we raised $18,240 for our students and school through the year-long hot lunch program ($14,600), our pasta dinner and the Vesey’s Bulbs & Seeds fundraisers ($3,640). With these funds, the Parent Council voted to support a mix of experiences and purchases to benefit all students and the school:

Complete the landscaping at the front entrance of the school = $2,500
Purchase sports equipment for both school team and in-school use = $2,500
Stock art supplies such as wheeled drying racks and brushes and paints = $650
Allocate funds to provide art experiences such as an artist-in-residence program or field trips = $3,500
Purchase music supplies = $600
Support additional subscriptions to the Lexia reading tool = $5,000
Covered the costs for the Pancake Tuesday breakfast, the all-student Christmas turkey luncheon celebration, and for our school community to come together during the Christmas pageant = $1,550
Held a Lenten workshop, hosted by the Spirituality Committee = $200

And, we fulfilled our Council bylaws by donating 10% of funds raised ($1,750) to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and The Flamborough Food Bank. They are both tremendously grateful.

Thank you for your overwhelming support! Despite all of the turmoil and uncertainty, we accomplished so much for our students and their education, recreation and overall school experience. And, at the same time we are helping those around us by donation.

We look forward to another successful year next year but, until then, have a wonderful and safe summer!

2018 - 2019 Catholic School Council Year End Report

2018 - 2019 Catholic School Council Year End Report

Dear Families:

Your Catholic School Council is proud to share how all of the funds you helped raise this year are supporting our students, school and community at large. Over the course of the school year, we organize 3 fundraisers to help bring dollars in the door:

· The year-long hot lunch program

· Our annual pasta dinner

· The ‘Get Your Grill On’ fundraiser (which won your vote at the beginning of the school year!)

Because of you, each of these fundraisers has been a resounding success and, together, we raised almost $20,000!

With these funds, in addition to offsetting some smaller costs such as class trip busing or requests for prizes for school-wide activities, the Parent Council voted to purchase:

· Folding tables for use throughout the school at events and in classrooms ($1,000)

· A wide range of sports equipment for indoor and outdoor use by students of all ages ($2,500)

· $420 worth of polydron math sets for primary grades

· Math books valued at $200

· Leveled readers costing $3,000

· Science class syringes ($100)

· Sports uniforms costing a total of $2,500

· 11 iPads (with AppleCare protection, of course!) and 3 Apple pencils totaling $7,665

And, on behalf of our school community, we fulfilled our Council bylaws by donating 10% of funds raised ($2,000) to four charities. Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Roots of Empathy, Sunrise Therapeutic Riding & Learning Centre, and The Children’s Aid Society of Hamilton each received $500 from the OLMC School Community.

The money raised through the year is impacting all students and supporting their education, recreation and overall school experience. And, at the same time we are helping those around us, too, by donation.

Thank you for your overwhelming support – and we look forward to another successful year next year! Have a great summer!
